Details: The 11th edition of hack.lu will take place at Parc Hotel Alvisse Luxembourg from 20 - 22 October at Parc Hotel Alvisse in Luxembourg-Dommeldange.
Hack.lu, organised by the Computer Incident Response Center Luxembourg (CIRCL), is an open convention/conference where people can discuss computer security, privacy, information technology and its cultural/technical implication on society. Hack.lu will attract more than 250 participants from 40 different countries.
The conference will open on a keynote presenting how a human being can become a fully integrated part of the Internet-of-Things, delivered by Marie Moe titled: “Unpatchable: Living with a Vulnerable Implanted Device”. She will explain how her life depends on the functioning of a medical device, more specifically a pacemaker, which can fail due to potential hardware and software problems, misconfigurations or network-connectivity issues.
Her talk will focus on three main aspects:
- The vulnerabilities of these life critical devices, which can’t easily be patched without performing surgery on patients.
- Her personal experience as the human host of such a device.
- How the hacker community can work with the vendors to secure these types of devices
In addition to this keynote speech, a variety of topics will be covered such as: malware reverse engineering, mobile applications, file formats, videos, smartlocks, messaging protocols, digital forensics, malicious Flash, honeypots, malicious word documents, just to mention a few.
With a yearly attendance of more than 250 people from around 40 different countries, hack.lu has become an internationally renowned convention for security professionals. Each year, the conference is dedicated to a specific topic, just as this year’s schooling/education theme, emphasized by a statement from Mark Twain: “I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.”
The Capture the Flag (CTF) contest will be another highlight of the conference, reconciling the theme around education. This security competition aims to give participants experience in securing a machine, as well as conducting and reacting to real world type of attacks.
