As part of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), the Ministry of Equal Opportunities will be organising, in cooperation with the National Council of Women of Luxembourg (CNFL), a major international conference on 15 and 16 October 2015, concerning the participation of women in economic and political decision-making.

The conference will assemble renowned national and international experts to deliberate on various strategies to promote the participation of women in this sector. The representations of women in economic and political decisions has been a significant topic of discussion in recent years in European policy concerning gender equality. The first part of the conference, on political decision-making, will be held from 13:30 on Thursday 15 October 2015, and the second half will concern economic decision-making, held from 14:30 on Friday 16 October 2015.

Despite possessing equal qualifications as men and an increasing presence in the labour market, women have still been found to be largely underrepresented in decision-making practices within both the public and private sectors. Women are better represented through a higher proportion in political decision-making, whilst they remain a significant minority compared with men in the economic component. The Government has therefore reportedly opted to draw on the opportunity of the Luxembourg Presidency in the second half of 2015 as a means of making this topic a priority in its programme for equality between men and women.
