Details: The 7th annual Pop(corn) Culture series of film screenings is a collaboration between Utopia SA and the University of Luxembourg.

The cycle addresses film and popular culture and is held in conjunction with the university's Bachelor en Cultures Européennes (BCE), as well as being open to members of the public to attend. Following each screening, a discussion is held in English / French / German, moderated by Agnès Prüm, Sonja Kmec and Tom Becker of the University of Luxembourg. The discussions are very open, mixing deep analysis with spontaneous observations and associations. From very different disciplines, guests can discover unsuspected aspects and (re)view films with new eyes.

This year, Pop[corn] Culture focuses on the many different ways gender is embodied, negotiated and reinvented in films. Most mainstream productions reinforce the two-gender model, positioning female and male as two complementary yet fundamentally different ways of being. Some films challenge this idea, whereas others may have “narrative fissures” that encourage us to re-examine conventional gender boundaries and representations.

Pop(corn) Culture blurs the boundaries between "high culture" and "popular culture".
