DetailsThe highly-anticipated animated film, Song of the Sea will be screened to an open audience in Luxembourg for the first time this Sunday, 7 December at 14:30 at Utopolis in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

Song of the Sea is a multi-country co-production, directed by Academy Award-nominated Irish filmmaker, Tomm Moore, who will be present on Sunday, and featuring voices from Irish stars such as Brendan Gleeson and Fionnula Flanagan. It also received production collaborations from Denmark, Belgium, France and Luxembourg. Locally, Studio 352 was part of the project, with Stéphan Roelants as co-producer.

The Luxembourg Chronicle spoke to Mr. Roelants, who explained that Studio 352 was involved in the storyboard layout, the story background and the animation itself. He highlighted the seven Annie Award (Animated films) nominations the film has already received and said it was on the shortlist for the Academy Awards, which will announce its nominees on 15 January. He will also be there on Sunday, as well as the whole Luxembourg crew that worked on the film.

Inspired by Celtic legends and myths that captivate children worldwide, Song of the Sea recounts the journey of Ben and his younger sister Saoirse who possesses a special gift – she is a Selkie, a sea fairy. Both children travel through a magical world of ancient Irish legends, where only Saoirse and her “Song of the Sea” can keep these tales alive and save fairy creatures from a tragic ending at the hands of the witch, and make them rediscover their own powers.

The animated picture is ninety-three minutes long and will be shown in French this Sunday, with the original version in English, being screened from next Wednesday onwards.
