Details: Toastmasters of Luxembourg have announced details of the European Semifinals of Public Speaking which pits the cream of Luxembourg's clubs against those of their fellow Toastmasters from Paris, Toulouse and Pau.
Luxembourg will be hosting the Division N Conference event on 26 October 2013 at the Hotel Légère, Munsbach, will act as a prelude to the European finals (District Conference) in Budapest later this year, from 15-17 November.
Toastmasters of the four regions will battle it out for two spots in two of public speaking specialities: humorous speeches, and impromptu speeches. As part of a build-up that involves over 1,000 contestants in 15 European countries, this is known to be Europe’s largest speech competition. Participants start competing at their local clubs, polish their skills as they advance to Area, through their Division (semi-final) to the District level. District 59 covers all European clubs for the last time, and the culminating event is programmed to be held in Budapest, Hungary over the weekend of the 15 - 17 November 2013.
The event of 26 October, entitled Luxembourg Talks, will welcome semi-finalists from 14 English-speaking clubs of France and Luxembourg which represents a membership base of 440 speakers. This event will start with two educational sessions and a keynote speech by an eminent French Diplomat turned Intercultural Communications Expert in the morning and continue through the afternoon with contests for the best humorous speech and best improvisation.
To be eligible for the competition, participants had to top their respective Area contests held on 12 October in Toulouse, Paris, and Luxembourg.
The format of the competition requires each humorous speaker to present a five-to seven minute speech in English. They are then judged by other, experienced Toastmasters based on speech content, originality, organisation, body language and delivery.
The keynote speaker, Lionel Vairon, is an eminent specialist in the field of Asian Political Science amongst other things will touch on Chinese language and culture during his address. Well versed on China-related current politics, security, and media Vairon teaches at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales, the Institut des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC), and the Collège Interarmées de Défense.
