Details: Regards croisés: Three major challenges facing a European project in crisis.
Luxembourg’s third ‘Regards croisés’ conference series on European issues is being organised by the Jesuit community and friends, in close cooperation with ‘La Vie nouvelle asbl’, the Brussels-based Jesuit European Social Center (JESC), the Luxembourg Justice and Peace Commission and the Kirchberg ‘antenne’ of the European parish.
In 2011-2012, guest speakers addressed such issues as the financial crisis, migration flows and the place of religion in the political sphere, while the 2012-2013 series focused on whether there is still any real vision behind the European integration project. This year’s series will look more closely at three issues which will be central to the European elections in May 2014, namely social justice, the environment and tax equity.
This year’s guest speakers will be three prominent figures in each of these areas:
– Nicolas Schmit, Luxembourg’s Minister for Employment, Labour and Immigration, who will speak on 24 October 2013 on ‘L’Europe face au défi de la justice sociale’ (in French),
– Claude Turmes, vice-chair of the Green Group in the European Parliament, on 6 February 2014, on ‘L’Europe face au défi de l’environnement’ (in French),
– Anna Iara, senior official at the European Commission européenne, on 7 May 2014, on ‘Tax justice in Europe’ (in English).
The three conferences will be held at 18:30 on each of the above dates in the chamber of the European Parliament’s Schuman Building (the entrance to which is next to the Philharmonie).
