Details:
Amnesty International Luxembourg is organising a demonstration in Luxembourg-Ville on Saturday 18 July 2026, together with Innocence en Danger Luxembourg and La Voix des Survivant·e·s, calling for what the organisations describe as a radical and urgent reform of child protection in Luxembourg.
The demonstration will begin at 15:00 at Place Hamilius and proceed to the Cité Judiciaire (Luxembourg's judicial district). Participants are invited to bring a soft toy, symbolising children waiting for protection, to be heard and to be respected.
As jointly stated by Luxembourg's Minister of Justice, Elisabeth Margue, and Minister of the Interior, Léon Gloden: "Every week in Luxembourg, two indecent assault cases are reported and, on average, one complaint of rape involving a minor is filed every eight days. In addition, there were 493 cases of assault and battery recorded in 2023."
According to the organisers, the voices of children continue not to be sufficiently heard and numerous shortcomings prevent child victims of violence from receiving adequate protection. They cited issues including allegations of parental alienation, the omission of medical evidence, repeated placements in care homes or with a parent suspected of violence, and excessively long judicial proceedings.
The organisations described the event as the first demonstration in Luxembourg dedicated to this issue.
