Details: The Institute for Global Financial Integrity (TIGFI) has announced that Jean-Claude Delepière, Director, Belgian Financial Intelligence Processing Unit (CTIF-CFI), will speak on “Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing: the scope for coordination between the public and private sectors” at the 29th Luxembourg Monthly Finance Lunch on Wednesday 12 June 2013 at the Cercle Munster from 11:30.
The Belgian Financial Intelligence Processing Unit (CTIF-CFI) plays one of the key roles in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing. For the near future there is a challenge to implement effectively at the national but also at the European level the new recommendations of the FATF about the coordination of the risk assessment in those fields.
About this month’s speaker: Jean–Claude Delepière, Deputy Attorney General at the Court of Appeal in Mons, is currently Director of the Belgian Financial Intelligence Processing Unit (CTIF–CFI) and formerly served as Deputy Director and member of the FIU for nearly ten years. From April 2007 until July 2008, he was the Director of the Coordination Organ for Threat Analysis (OCAM–OCAD). Mr. Delepière is also Honorary President of the Comité permanent de contrôle des services de renseignements (Comité R), where he worked from February 1999 until July 2006.
Mr. Delepière obtained a Master’s degree in Law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 1973. He started as a trainee attorney-at-Law at the Bar in Brussels (1 October 1973 until 17 December 1974) and worked as a lawyer in the private sector for three years. Mr. Delepière then joined the Central administration of customs and excises as an Assistant Inspector at the Tax authorities and worked as chief inspector at the Customs investigation services in Brussels from 1982 through 1989. That same year, he was appointed Deputy Public Prosecutor specialized in tax matters allocated to the financial section of the Public Prosecutor in Brussels. On 15 February 1989, Mr. Delepière was nominated as Advisor within the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Europe 1992.
