Liichtmëssdag or Candlemas is one of Luxembourg’s oldest traditions, celebrated each year on 2 February. As evening falls, children around the Grand Duchy go door to door in their neighbourhoods bearing colourful lanterns and singing in exchange for sweets and money. The origins of this tradition date to the pre-Christian era, although Liichtmëssdag is now associated with Saint Blaise.
