Luxembourg's Economic Committee has granted requests for short-time work (partial unemployment) for 14,860 employees for the month of April 2022.
The Economic Committee met on Monday 21 March 2022 to analyse the labour market situation for the month of February 2022 and the national economic situation.
At this meeting, the Economic Committee granted 708 requests for partial unemployment for the month of April 2022. For the month in question, the number of applications submitted for partial unemployment fell by 332 units compared to the previous month; a total of 766 companies submitted such a request in March for the coming month.
Among the 708 approved requests, 640 were related to simplified structural economic problems linked to COVID-19. 61 others related to the manufacturing sector. Moreover, five requests were considered to be a case of force majeure, in relation to the floods of 14 and 15 July 2021. Two requests were related to economic dependence.
The granted requests for the month of April concern 14,860 full-time employees (up from 12,119 in March). This upward trend in the number of employees affected, while the number of companies requesting partial unemployment is decreasing, is explained in particular by the increase in requests from large companies in the manufacturing sector, which have been impacted by the war in Ukraine.
During this meeting, the Economic Committee also analysed in more detail the economic, financial and social situation of six companies wishing to extend their plan to maintain individual employment or their recovery plan.
The next meeting of the Economic Committee is scheduled for Tuesday 26 April 2022.
