The Luxembourg Parliament passed a law on Wednesday afternoon increasing the number of days of annual work leave to 26.

As of this year, people working in Luxembourg will be entitled to two days of additional leave thanks to the approval of Bill 7399. This will include the new public holiday, Europe Day, on 9 May and encompasses an increase from 25 days (currently) of statutory holidays to 26 days.

Whilst Europe Day will be a public holiday for everyone, the 26th day of additional leave will only apply to employees who currently have only 25 days of legal leave.

Luxembourg trade union ALEBA has shown support for the Parliament's decision. However, it has demanded that the 26 days be extended to employees in banks and insurance companies, who are currently legally entitled to only 25 days of annual leave due to collective agreements.
