New findings from Luxembourg statistics portal STATEC released on Monday show that paid employment has risen 0.7% in the second quarter of 2015 compared with the previous quarter.
The paid employment rate was also found to have increased 2.6% with regards to the same trimester in 2014. STATEC reported that speciality business and support services, with a 6.1% year over year (YOY) increase, as well as Information and Communication with a 4.5% YOY, remain the most dynamic of the sectors.
In the first part, employment is mainly driven by legal activities and accounting, as well as advisory activities, whilst in the second part it is data treatment and storage which generates employment. Overall, these two industries, which cover 19% of salaried employment, were responsible for almost 35% of net job creation between the second quarter of 2014 and the same quarter in 2015. These are essentially highly qualified job profiles.
The number of cross-border workers grew slightly more rapidly than the number of resident workers, of +3.3% against +2.1% YOY. Amongst residents, the number of workers from the EU increased 2.9%, whilst the number of third country workers also rose 5.9%.
The amount of female workers increased more than that of male workers between Q2 of 2014 and Q2 of 2015, with +2.8% women as compared to 2.5% men.
