Students in the process of doing their Masters degree at the University of Luxembourg will continue to gain practical experience due to a renewed moot court partnership between the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance and the Luxembourg office of global law firm Clifford Chance.

Moot court competitions allow law students to learn by doing by presenting them with a fictional case on which they must submit a written brief. The top teams are then selected to participate in the oral pleasing round. In this way, mooting simulates a real life court case experience, with students carrying out research and presenting their case whilst competing against students from other universities.

In 2014, students from the University of Luxembourg won first prize at the prestigious 'Concours Européen des Driots de l'Homme René Cassin'. This academic year the university will be entering teams in six international moot court competitions.

In order for the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance to participate in these events, Clifford Chance has provided a substantial financial contribution to the practical experience, as well as expertise and coaching for the students selected to represent the University. The Luxembourg branch forms one of the law firm's 36 offices across 26 countries and is one of the leading law firms in the Grand Duchy with a team of more than 120 professionals.

"We were enthusiastic about sponsoring the moot court teams because of the unique features of the programme, in particular the skills it allows students to develop in addition to their academic pursuits," commented Steve Jacoby, partner at Clifford Chance and associate lecturer at the faculty, who welcomed the continuation of the project.
