On Wednesday 28 August 2024, Lux-Airport, the operating company of Luxembourg Airport, announced that its runway is closed for repairs.
During a routine inspection on Wednesday morning, damage was detected on the asphalt surface of the runway at Findel Airport, leading to its closure for repair work. At 10:30, a section of the runway was reopened for limited operations, allowing aircraft to take off. However, no landings are currently possible, and arriving flights are being diverted to other airports, Lux-Airport confirmed.
Repair work is ongoing and is expected to continue until the early afternoon, Lux-Airport noted. Flight delays are anticipated, and passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest information and to adjust their travel plans accordingly.
Cancelled flights include those from Zurich, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam and Oslo and those to Zurich, Munich, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Istanbul and Oslo. Diverted flights include those from Barcelona, Istanbul and Porto (x2).
This list is not exhaustive. Passengers who are uncertain are asked to confirm directly with their airline for further travel arrangements. The decision to divert or cancel rests with the airline, Lux-Airport concluded.
Update: Lux-Airport has confirmed that the runway at Luxembourg Airport has been fully reopened and has been operational again since 14:30.
