The LCGB trade union has issued a statement condemning the the recent attack on a bus driver.
The LCGB, being the largest trade union in the transport sector in Luxembourg, communicated that it "is outraged and strongly condemns this totally barbaric act". The LCGB has asked the Luxembourg government and the FLEAA to accelerate the deployment of solutions it believes will protect its drivers from such violence.
The LCGB states that the number of incidents is "starting to be alarming and worrying", adding that "the violence is increasing".
Some of the latest attacks on bus drivers occurred on:
• 09 October 2021 in Walferdange
• 05 November 2021 on rue André Vésale in Luxembourg-ville
• 18 Januray 2022 at Esch-sur-Alzette railway station
• 04 February 2022 in Luxembourg-Kirchberg
• 18 February 2022 at Esch-sur-Alzette railway station
• 29 March 2022 (the most recent) at Boulevard Franklin Roosevelt in Luxembourg-ville.
On 11 March 2022, an LCGB delegation met with officials in charge of public transport administration to clarify, in particular, the conclusions on the implementation of anti-assault cabins for bus drivers, following a favourable opinion sent by the Transport ministry to the LCGB during the last public transport safety steering committee meeting. During this exchange, the LCGB reports that it was confirmed that such a system would be implemented, in order to best secure bus drivers, with in particular the purchase of new vehicles for the RGTR, surveillance camera equipment, as well as the establishment of a secure protection system for existing vehicles.
In order to highlight the security system, the LCGB also reiterated its demand for the establishment, as for the CFL, of security guards around stations, border crossings and car parks, in order to best secure drivers, as well as passengers and deter potential troublemakers.
According to the LCGB, officials from the public transport administration have confirmed that a discussion will be held quickly in consultation with the Minister in charge of mobility, so that a study is made and to establish as quickly as possible the possibilities of such implementation on any specific lines or strategic locations and at targeted times.
