Jan de Nul Group, a company that provides services related to maritime infrastructure and which has its financial headquarters in Luxembourg, today announced the completion of a large Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) contract for foundations, power cables and scour protection at the Formosa 1 Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan

Jan De Nul Group has designed, supplied and installed 20 foundations for offshore wind turbines consisting of a monopile and an intermediate part with a cast assembly. 56,000 tonnes of scour protection were installed around monopile foundations. In addition, seventeen interconnecting cables and three 33kV submarine export cables were designed, supplied, installed, buried, connected and tested. On the ground, the connection to the substation was made through 12 km of terrestrial electrical cables.

In addition to some international suppliers and service providers, Jan De Nul Group has entered into and concluded various service and subcontracting agreements with local Taiwanese companies. The Group not only used the Taichung Harbor as a sorting yard but also used the local supply chain for the production of rocks, rock transport operations, storage and transportation of the structure of foundations, landing assistance operations, diver support services, various support vessels, transition junction installation, HDD conduit, landline cable installation and many more minor services.

Peter De Pooter, Head of Offshore Renewable Energy at Jan De Nul Group, commented: "Our local integration in Taiwan has been ongoing for 20 years thanks to our diverse maritime activities in the region. In the last twelve months, we have signed several agreements with local suppliers for this project in Taiwan. The operation of the local supply chain fits perfectly with our philosophy of involving local companies as much as possible in the construction of offshore wind turbines".

Jan De Nul Group carried out its first project in Taiwan in 1995. Since 1999, the Group has been offering its services to the offshore oil and gas industry, as well as to the main Taiwanese ports (Taipei, Taichung, Kaoshiung and Mailiao).

With two other offshore wind farms under completion, scheduled for 2020 and 2021 respectively, Jan De Nul Group continues to play a leading role in the future generation of renewable energy in Taiwan.
