Cargolux has expressed interest in Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan province in southwest China, as the destination of one of its two new logistics hubs in China.

On 20 October 2019, during the last day of his official visit to China, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mobility and Public Works François Bausch met with Xiaoliu Liu, the deputy-mayor of Chengdu, as well as officials of Chengdu Airport and the aviation sector.

Following a tour of the airport, Cargolux gave a presentation of the activities of the Luxembourg airport and airline company. Indeed, Cargolux emphasised the clear interest expressed by Chinese partners in Chengdu in becoming a new logistics hub in mainland China, next to Zhengzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen. This applies to both the rail and aviation sectors.

Knowing that Cargolux will choose two new hubs for its activities in China before the end of 2020, Deputy-Mayor Xiaoliu Liu expressed interest in developing relations with Luxembourg. In this context, a Chinese delegation will visit Luxembourg in January 2020 to continue talks on the issue. Chinese counterparts particularly emphasised the importance of the role of the infrastructure for fresh and pharmaceutical products, for which Luxembourg Airport was one of the first to obtain certification, in their decision.
