The Air Navigation Administration (ANA) has conformed that the implementation of new radar equipment for air traffic controllers is scheduled for this coming Saturday 8 June 2019 at Findel airport.

This comprehensive upgrade of air traffic control radar software is required to ensure air traffic safety. The transition phase to the new equipment could potentially cause disruptions in the airspace and at Luxembourg airport.

Safety assessment has identified that during this transitional period, air traffic restrictions will have to apply, as follows:

• IFR (instrument flight rules-instrument flight rules) restrictions of 8 June 2019 17:00 UTC until 7 July 2019 22:00 UTC;

• Visual flight rules (VFR) restrictions, including IFR training and aerial work, from 8 June 2019 at 17:00 UTC until 10 June 2019 at 22:00 UTC (this phase can be extended until 16 June 2019 at 22:00 UTC if deemed necessary by ANA ATC). The restrictions will be subject to regular reviews and will be adapted accordingly.

A stakeholder consultation of the airport and airlines was held on 15 May 2019.

In the coming days, the Air Navigation Administration will try to minimise the disruption of air traffic and minimise the impact for airport users.
