On Thursday, The Luxembourg Chronicle talked with Luxembourg's Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, Francois Bausch, during his current trip to China, in relation to the progress made concerning the growth of the air freight transport business between China and Luxembourg.
The proposed new freight airline, Cargolux Asia, is to be established with Cargolux in Luxembourg having a 35% stake with HNCA and Zhengzhou airport having the other 65%. The initial fleet will comprise 4 freighters, most likely Boeing 747Fs, and these could either be purchased new or be leased, or a combination of both. The new freight airline will focus on flying from Zhengzhou to destinations across SE Asia.
Minister Bausch confirmed that the meetings he had attended in Beijing earlier in the week had been to request additional air slots for the current Cargolux operations to increase capacity on routes to the US and Latin America, from China, as well as new routes.
