On Thursday 18 July 2024, the cultural centre Les Rotondes has announced it will hold its sixteenth edition of the Congés Annulés festival in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie, from Friday 26 July to 21 August 2024.
The summer festival’s opening night on Friday 26 July, will be coupled with the opening of the Les Voyeuses exhibition. From 18:00 until the end of the night, the site will host the sound of DJ sets by Sh’napan and Kuston Beater as well as concerts by the British singer-songwriter Billy Nomates, the Mujeres garage rock band from Barcelona and the local band Sheebaba.
For Les Voyeuses, the Rotondes forecourt and its surroundings, enhanced telescopes will allow visitors to (re)see the buildings as they were 60 years ago on period images reworked by twelve contemporary artists. During the opening, three performances will take place around these devices which will remain in place and available for free viewing until the end of the Congés Annulés on 21 August. Packs of postcards will be on sale via a new outdoor vending machine, the rotondo:mat, as souvenirs of this journey through time.
After this first evening, the public will have four weeks of opportunities to dance to various genres and styles, notably with the American artists Protomartyr (19 August) and John Maus (13 August), the electro collaborations to be discovered during the events Format (9 and 10 August), the English musician Bill Ryder-Jones’ folk (4 August) or the soul/funk of the Indonesians of LAIR (14 August).
Les Voyeuses will not be the only visual surprise of the summer since a new collector's screen print will be unveiled on 8 August. Les Rotondes noted it asked the German illustrator/designer Lisa Goebel to cross her universe with that of the indie rock group Oum Shatt. This limited edition will be available on-site the same evening and then online at the Rotondes Gift Shop.
Congés Annulés reservations can be made online via rotondes.lu or via tel.: 2662-2030 (from Tuesday to Friday 13:30-18:00).
