Amnesty International Luxembourg has announced that it will participate in the 2024 Feminist March later today, Friday 8 March 2024, as a member of the JIF platform for the defence and protection of all women.
Since 1977, this day of 8 March has been an opportunity to take stock of the situation of women around the world and to become aware of the challenges they continue to face in society.
Amnesty International Luxembourg has stated that it supports all the demands highlighted by the Luxembourg JIF platform in 2024, and that in several areas, significant progress is necessary, in particular: real salary justice. a real reduction in working time, three-month birth leave for all, recognition of the right to affordable and decent housing for all, and effective fight and prevention of violence against women (Istanbul Convention).
Amnesty International has confirmed that it continues to advocate for the rights of women around the world, including by supporting:
- women in Iran, who fight for the recognition of their freedoms
- women in Afghanistan who face multiple challenges, from being denied access to education to having their voices erased
- women who experience violations of their rights during armed conflict, including sexual violence
- women who face limitations or restrictions on their sexual and reproductive rights.
Fernanda Pérez Solla, director of the Luxembourg section of Amnesty International, said: “I am marching for survivors of sexual violence around the world and for equality in the world of work: in 2024, women deserve a completely different reality".
Amnesty supporters are expected at Amnesty International Luxembourg headquarters from 14:00 for a sign workshop. Charlotte Brouxel, human rights education officer, will also be present to remind people of the importance of fighting for women's rights. The protest march then starts at 17:00 at the Place de Paris in Luxembourg-Gare.
