Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth has announced that the Grand Duchy's music conservatories will hold their traditional Laureate Gala (Gala des Lauréats) at the Théâtre de la Ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette on Friday 10 November 2023 at 20:00.

This gala will highlight the talents of the best students from the conservatories of Luxembourg City, Esch-sur-Alzette and the North, accompanied by the Luxembourg Military Band.

The public will have an opportunity to listen to the fruit of the work of the top scorers in the examination to obtain the higher diploma for the 2022/2023 school year.

The soloists of the evening will be: Raphaël Clement on the double bass (Conservatoire du Nord); Katarzyna Kawinska, classical singing (Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg); Tracey Lamberty Wohles on the trumpet (Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg); Nicolas Leydenbach on piano (Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg); Catherine Origer on the piccolo (half-size flute) (Conservatoire de la Ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette).

The Luxembourg Military Band will play under the direction of its head of music, Lieutenant-Colonel Jean-Claude Braun.

The concert programme includes:

  • Les Nuits d'Été (Summer Nights) (excerpts) by Hector Berlioz, with an arrangement by Henk de Vlieger;
  • Premier Solo (concert) by Gabriel Parès;
  • Picc Trix by Mike Mower;
  • Piano Concerto No. 2 Op. 18 (1st movement) by Sergei Rachmaninoff;
  • Music of the Spheres by Philip Sparke.

The Laureate Gala is organised by the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth in collaboration with the three conservatories and the Luxembourg Military Band.
