On Monday 24 April 2023, Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL), and Patrick Goldschmidt, the alderman responsible for festivals and markets, presented this year's "Summer an der Stad" (Summer in the City) programme at a press conference.

Fête de la Musique

The season will kick off with the "Fête de la Musique" on Friday 16 June 2023. This edition features stages in four locations: Place d'Armes (Ville Haute), Place Thorn (Merl), Puits-Rouge (Ville Haute) and Grand-Rue, at the intersection with Rue Aldringen (Ville Haute).

Other concerts will take place in various establishments with the support of the City of Luxembourg, including at Rocas, Rock Solid, Mesa Verde, De Gudde Wëllen, Vantage Bar, Uewerbayern and Mirador.

In addition, the following concerts will take place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June 2023: Jazz Orchestra University College London concert in Place d'Armes on the Saturday, "Museksdag" of the Union Grand-Duc Adolphe (UGDA) in Place d'Armes on the Sunday and various concerts on both days to mark the 125th anniversary of the "Bouneweger Musek" in the square in Place du Parc in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie.

City Sounds

The summer festivities will continue with "City Sounds" open-air concerts on Glacis in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 June 2023, both days starting at 17:00. Lost Frequencies (Belgium), Wade (Spain) and Flavour Trip (Luxembourg) feature on Thursday's lineup. On the second day, which also happens to be Luxembourg's National Day, performances by The 1975 (UK), The Script (Ireland), Francis of Delirium (Luxembourg) and Ice In My Eyes (Luxembourg) are on the agenda. Entry is free (no tickets).

Kinnekswiss loves...

The fifth edition of the "Kinnekswiss loves..." open-air concert series in Kinnekswiss Park, spread out for the first time over three consecutive days, will take place on Friday 30 June, Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 July 2023. Entry is free (no tickets).

This edition's headliner Stewart Copeland, drummer and founder of The Police, will perform on the first evening from 21:00, as part of his "The Police Deranged for Orchestra" tour. He will be accompanied by the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Military Band.

The musical programme will continue on the Saturday at 21:00 with the Philharmonie Luxembourg's "Rhapsodies on the Kinnekswiss". The Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg (OPL) will perform this show, under the direction of Gustavo Gimeno and accompanied on the piano by Yuja Wang.

To close this edition of "Kinnekswiss loves…", various ensembles from the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg will provide musical entertainment from 11:00 to 17:00 on the Sunday, with a concert scheduled for 19:30.

Blues'n'Jazz Rallye

The "Blues'n'Jazz Rallye" will return to the Pfaffenthal, Clausen and Grund neighbourhoods with a new edition on Saturday 15 July 2023. This year, an additional stage has been added, bringing the total number of stages to eight: Place August Engel (Grund), Abbaye de Neumünster (neimënster, Grund), Melusina (Clausen), Rives de Clausen, Mansfeld Park (Clausen), Odendahl Park (Pfaffenthal), Theiwesbuer (Pfaffenthal) and Sang a Klang (Pfaffenthal). In addition, the following nearby establishments will offer jazz and blues concerts to visitors: Café des Artistes, Scott's Pub, Liquid, Oscar's, The Pyg, Grizzly, Big Beer Company and Ikki.

Other upcoming events in Luxembourg City include: "Plëss in Concert" in Place d'Armes from 30 April to 6 September 2023; the National Day celebrations on 22 and 23 June 2023; "Theaterplage" (urban beach) in Place du Théâtre from 6 July to 4 September 2023; "D'Stad liest" (literary event) in the courtyard adjacent to the Notre-Dame Cathedral from 16 August to 3 September 2023; the "Schueberfouer" in Glacis from 23 August to 11 September 2023.
