The 194th edition of the Éimaischen (Easter Market) takes place in Luxembourg-ville on Monday 10 April 2023 from 08:00 in the stareets behind the Grand Ducal Palace.
As every year, the Easter festivities announce the arrival of the traditional market "Éimaischen", one of the most emblematic events linked to the Luxembourg tradition. The craft market has existed at least since 1827 and whose principal theme is pottery and ceramics. The famous "Peckvillercher", small terracotta whistles in the shape of birds, are sold only on the occasion of Éimaischen. Their appearance varies from year to year, which makes them coveted collector's items, around which collectors already crowd at dawn. Their sounds punctuate, along with folk entertainment and gastronomy stalls, the special atmosphere of this unique market.
The craft market opens from 08:00 and goes on until 17:00 in the historic alleys of the old town, in particular at the Marché-aux-Poissons, in the rue du Marché-aux-Herbes, in the rue de la Boucherie, in the rue du Rost, and in the rue Sigefroi.
Entertainment programme
The day will be animated by various folk groups who will offer singing, dancing and musical entertainment at the Marché-aux-Poissons, on the forecourt of the National Museum of History and Art, from 10:00 to 15:30:
• 10:00 - 11:00: Folklore Uucht - La Ronde
• 11:15 - 12:15: Lidderuucht
• 13:00 - 14:00: Alles Blech
• 14:30 - 15:30: Grënnesch Strepp
Apart from the sales stands and the musical programme, the City of Luxembourg will also offer a free “facepainting” for children between 10:00 and 17:00 at the intersection of rue du Rost and rue de la Boucherie.
At 15:00, the "Poppentheater Hoplabum" will perform the piece "Kollegen" in the hall of the National Museum of History and Art.
