LUkraine asbl has announced details of a March of Solidarity entitled "365 Days of Bravery Resilience Courage Support" that will take place on Saturday 25 February 2023 in Luxembourg city centre.
Those interested in showing their solidarity with the people of Ukraine are invited to meet outside the train station at Luxembourg-Gare for a 14:00 start. The route of the march will be along the Avenue de la Liberté, crossing the Pont Adolphe, turning right onto the Bld FD Roosevelt and, just before the Place de la Constitution (Golden Lady), turning left and up to the Place de Clairefontaine where a number of speeches will be made to the assembled crowd.
Chronicle.lu talked with Nicolas Zharov, President of LUkraine Asbl. He explained that the date of 25 February was chosen as this is when Ukraine and the world started to resist and fight back; it is to commemorate "365 days of bravery, resilience, courage and support" following Russia's invasion of Ukraine; he stressed that it is not to commemorate the actual invasion on 24 February 2022. Also, being a Saturday, he hopes that more people will be able to participate.
He stated that they are hoping for four figures of people on the day, and he explained that they are liaising with the authorities as gatherings of more than 500 people require special authorisation for which they are applying.
He confirmed that while LUkraine supports refugees arriving in Luxembourg, pointing them in the direction of organisations, etc., that can help them, their main effort is focussed on helping the people in Ukraine "who risk death on a daily basis"; that is done in a number of ways, including fund-raising for specific initiatives / projects, such as the purchase and supply of emergency vehicles such as fire engines and ambulances.
He explained that the main message of the solidarity march is "to keep up supporting Ukraine within the solidarity we have achieved during the last twelve months, and to multiply this solidarity".
