The Irish Club of Luxembourg is organising a Guided Tour of the Philharmonie on Saturday 30 April 2022, followed by a lunch in a nearby restaurant.
 
The event will take place with people meeting by 10:45 at the Philharmonie on Place de l'Europe in Luxembourg-Kirchberg. We will have one/two groups (of 20-25 people), with the first group departing at 11:00 and the second one shortly afterwards.

The Luxembourg Philharmonie was opened in 2005; its striking facade has 823 columns made of white steel. It is also known officially as the Grande-Duchesse Joséphine-Charlotte Concert Hall. It has a Grand Auditorium (1,500 seats) and a Chamber Music Hall (313 seats), as well as a Discovery Space (180 seats); it plays host to 400 performances annually. The Philharmonie is the home of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra in permanent residence.
 
The Guided Tour (in English) will last around an hour and will include an architectural insight in to the building's design and construction, as well as cultural and programming information. It will also bring us behind-the-scenes, back-stage to various rooms, etc., that are not normally seen by those attending concerts, etc., including where performing artists prepare and relax, as well as technicians going about their jobs.
 
Meal: The lunch afterwards will take place in the restaurant at the nearby Mama Shelter Luxembourg hotel (see https://mamashelter.com/luxembourg/eat-drink/restaurant/). As we have a group reservation, we have organised the following menu:

  • Starters (choice of): 
    • Caramelized chicken wings
    • Mediterranean hummus & grissini (vegetarian)
  • Main Course (choice of): 
    • Chicken Caesar salad
    • Parmigina, mixed salad (vegetarian)
  • Dessert: 
    • Tiramisu tradition
  • Drinks included:
    • Glass of wine or 1 soft drink, plus
    • Still / sparkling mineral water, plus
    • Tea or coffee.

Cost: €39 for club members (€44 for non-members). For those who cannot stay for the lunch (i.e. tour only), the cost is €5 (members), €10 (non-members).

There is no cost for accompanied children (U12s) regarding the tour; for their lunch, they can choose from the à la Carte menu and pay the restaurant directly.
 
Date & time: Saturday 30 April 2022 @ 10:45 (meet outside the "Entrée des artistes / conciergerie" of the Philharmonie in Luxembourg-Kirchberg). There is underground parking at the venue which is also accessible via bus and tram (stop "Philharmonie").
