The Regional Tourist Office of the Mullerthal Region - Luxembourg's Little Switzerland recently presented the Interreg project "Tourism for all".

Within this project, the Mullerthal regional tourist office is currently analysing how the natural and cultural hot spots in the German-Luxembourgish nature park could be integrated into the concept of travel for all.

This work is part of a cross-border project that aims to develop a common strategy for tourism for all in the German-Luxembourg nature park. The aim is to gain new target groups and guarantee comfort to visitors and people living in the border region.

An important part of the project is to check whether the tourist offer is accessible to all. After this, new offers can be created in the future.

"It is very important for us to consider the entire tourist service chain in order to be able to offer guests an overall experience", said Linda Salentin, Managing Director of the regional tourist office.

Another focus of the project is to create comfortable and easy hiking trails that allow a broad public to experience important places in the border region.

The consulting agency NeumannConsult was commissioned to analyse eight hiking trails in the Mullerthal region. They are currently checking whether these trails meet all the criteria so that they could be considered as comfortable hiking trails. The criteria include, for example, the slope of the path or the availability of sufficient seating so that people with restricted mobility or people with prams feel comfortable.

The paths should be scenically attractive and also be connected to rest stops, car parks, public transport and tourist information. "For us, the project is a good opportunity to make our region accessible to all", explained Christophe Origer, President of the regional tourist office. In order to create easy hikes, measures may have to be taken along the route, such as removing bumps and installing additional seating.

The paths will be marked with a sign currently being developed in a national cooperation between the five regional tourist offices, the General Directorate for Tourism of Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy and NeumannConsult.

The regional tourist office is also considering purchasing traction devices for wheelchairs which would allow adults and children in wheelchairs to be more mobile and independent in everyday life.

The project partner in charge of the Interreg project is the Zweckverband Naturpark Südeifel (Germany). Other project partners are the Zweckverband Internationales Sport-, Kultur- und Freizeitzentrum Ralingen-Rosport (ISKFZ Ra-RO; Germany) and the Éislek (Oesling) Regional Tourist Office (Luxembourg). Other strategic partners of the project are the German-Luxembourgish Tourist Information in Wasserbilligerbrück (Germany), the Nature- & Geopark Mëllerdall (Mullerthal; Luxembourg), the Nature Park Our (Luxembourg) and the Hohes Venn Eifel Nature Park (Belgium).
