The Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg has announced the return of its City Open Air Cinema, which this year celebrates its 40th edition with free outdoor screenings in Luxembourg City.

The open-air cinema will take place in Place Guillaume II (Knuedler) from Thursday 23 to Tuesday 28 July 2026. For the first time, the City Open Air Cinema will also come to Bonnevoie, with three evenings of screenings scheduled for Place Léon XIII from Thursday 6 to Saturday 8 August 2026. According to the organisers, this year's programme combines cinema classics and cult favourites, featuring films starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Gregory Peck, Sophie Marceau, Steve Carell and others.

The Cinémathèque noted that the atmosphere is intended to be friendly and relaxed, with a short introduction before each screening. Visitors are invited to arrive from 20:30 to enjoy an "Apéro Time" with drinks and refreshments before the films begin at sunset. Screenings will go ahead even in the event of rain.

Admission is free and open to the public, with no ticket reservation required. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, while spectators are also welcome to bring their own chairs, blankets or other accessories.
