The City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) has announced the return of the traditional "Éimaischen" market after a two-year pause due to COVID-19.

Éimaischen is a craft market which has existed at least since 1827 and whose main theme is pottery and ceramics. The market is the exclusive occasion to purchase "Péckvillercher", small terracotta whistles in the shape of birds. Their appearance varies from year to year, which makes them coveted collector's items.

The craft market, organised by the public space, festivals and markets department of the City of Luxembourg, in partnership with Comité Alstad asbl, will be held on Easter Monday (18 April 2022) from 08:00 to 17:00 in the historic alleys of the old town, in particular on Rue du Marché-aux-Herbes, Rue de la Boucherie, Rue du Rost and Rue Sigefroi.

Entertainment programme

Various folk groups will offer singing, dancing and musical entertainment on the forecourt of the National Museum of History and Art (Musée National d'Histoire et d'Art - MNHA), from 10:00 to 17:00:

10:00 - 11:00: Lidderuucht Lëtzebuerg
11:00 - 12:00: Folklore Uucht – La Ronde
13:00 - 14:00: Les Brasseurs (Brass Ensemble)
14:30 - 15:30: Alles Blech

Apart from the sales stands and the musical programme, the City of Luxembourg will also offer free face painting for children between 10:00 and 17:00 at the intersection of Rue du Rost and Rue de la Boucherie.

For the 2022 edition of Éimaischen, the relevant department received a total of 109 participation requests from which 66 participants were selected.
