Whilst most of the country's Christmas markets have already closed their doors for another year, there are still various festive activities taking place in and around Luxembourg this week.

Luxembourg City

The 2021 Winterlights festival in the capital will run until Sunday 2 January 2022, which means there is still time to visit the Christmas markets and other attractions spread across nine different locations in the city centre and Luxembourg-Gare district.

Highlights include visits to the "Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart" in Place d'Armes and the "Wantermaart" in Place de la Constitution, ice skating in Kinnekswiss park and workshops for children as part of the "Winterkids" programme, which is taking place until 23 December 2021.

The Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) is also organising its "City Lights Promenade" guided tour through the capital at dusk (17:00 to 19:00) on Friday 24 December 2021. Tickets cost €14 (adults).

On Sunday 26 December 2021, Mudam – The Contemporary Art Museum of Luxembourg is offering a guided tour of its exhibitions in English. The tour is intended for individuals and small groups of up to four people and will take place from 11:00 to 11:45. Tickets cost €8 (adults). Dudelange

Whilst the Christmas and traditional medieval markets in Dudelange closed over the weekend, visitors to this southern Luxembourgish town will have another chance to get in the festive mood this Thursday. The "Amicale vum Zenter Diddeleng" will be selling mulled wine, hot chocolate and Feuerzangenbowle (literal translations: fire tong punch or burnt punch; a traditional German Christmas punch) – all donated by the “Weihnachtspyramide” (Christmas pyramid) – for a good cause at the Dudelange market (town hall square) on 23 December 2021, from 08:00 to 12:00. Proceeds will go to Télévie Luxembourg, a charitable initiative aimed at supporting cancer research.

Remich

In Remich, also known as "the pearl of the Moselle", the festivities continue this week right up to Christmas Day (and even after). The Visit Remich Shop is organising a "Glüh Hike" guided tour through the Moselle landscape on Friday 24 December 2021 at 14:00. Visitors will have the chance to try different types of mulled wine to escape the cold.

The Visit Remich shop is also hosting a pop-up Christmas crafts market every Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 and Sundays from 14:00 to 17:00 until 24 December 2021.

Moreover, visitors to this town in south-eastern Luxembourg have the opportunity to go ice staking at its covered mobile ice rink until 31 December 2021. The rink is open Monday to Friday from 14:00 to 20:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00; on 24 and 31 December, it is open from 10:00 to 16:00. The rink is closed on 25 December 2021.

Beaufort

In the Mullerthal region, the Ice Park Beaufort is open for ice skating, ice karting and ice hockey from 10:00 to 19:00 on 20 to 23 December and from 10:00 to 16:00 on 24 December 2021. After closing on 25 and 26 December, the ice rink will be open again from 27 December 2021.

Vianden

Whilst there are no festive activities per se organised at Vianden Castle this week, a definite Christmas theme has taken over the ever-popular tourist attraction: Christmas trees, presents, Advent wreathes and even a Nativity scene are currently set up in the castle's many rooms.

Vianden Castle is open every day this winter from 10:00 to 16:00, except on 25 December 2021 and 1 January 2022 when it will be closed to the public.

Note that CovidCheck rules apply to most if not all of the activities listed above.
