Rafael Nadal, the 4th seed at the 2016 French Open tennis tournament currently being played at Roland Garros, withdrew from the tournament on Saturday afternoon due to a left wrist injury.
At the hastily-arranged press conference, he revealed that he had been suffering the injury over the last couple of weeks and although he was receiving treatment for it, the injury has become worse. On Thursday, he had an anaesthetic injection to deaden the feeling in his wrist be able to play. Overnight the injury became much worse and after having an MRI and echograph, he found out that the results were not positive.
It is not broken, but if he continued to play within a couple of days, it would be broken. He took the risk yesterday but there is no way that he would be able to play the five matches necessary in order to win the tournament. He will undergo more treatment in the hope that he can come back in time for Wimbledon.
