On Thursday 14 November 2024, the organisers of the Schluechthaus second-hand book sale presented, in the presence of Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer and the College of Aldermen, a cheque for €3,942.40 to the director of the Ile aux Clowns association, Eric Anselin.

This amount was raised at the book fair, which took place on Sunday 20 October 2024 as part of the "Second Hand at Schluechthaus" event, on the site of the former slaughterhouse in Luxembourg-Hollerich. The one-day pop-up bookstore was organised in collaboration with the Lëtzebuerg City Library and the “bookstagrammers” @Betweenthelines.lu and @Idealistatheart and supported by volunteers.

The charity event, described by the organisers as an “immense success”, had already raised €1,925 for the Stëmm vun der Strooss non-profit organisation during its first edition in October 2023. The increase in income this year is reportedly a testament to its success. The next edition of the second-hand book sale will take place in October 2025.

The funds raised were donated in full to Ile aux Clowns, a team of hospital clowns that offer support, relief, joie de vivre and a listening ear to people of all ages in difficult times throughout the year, in coordination with healthcare staff. The association works with more than 30 establishments throughout Luxembourg, whether hospitals, care homes, day centres or reception centres. All clown interventions are offered free of charge to beneficiaries.

The City of Luxembourg thanked all those who donated or bought a book to support the association.
