POST Luxembourg has announced its decision to increase by €50 million its multi-year budget for investments in the telecommunications network.

As part of the development of POST's “Network of the future”, Serge Allegrezza, Chairman of the Board of Administration, and Claude Strasser, CEO of POST Luxembourg, received on Tuesday the Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot for a visit to a site in Dudelange to extend the fibre optic network.

During this visit, POST Luxembourg presented the general structure of the FTTH (Fiber to the Home) optical fibre network, followed by a demonstration of the various technical steps. Minister Franz Fayot assisted in the laying of an optical fibre cable by blowing, the making of the joint of the latter and the connection of the end customer to the POST optical fiber network.

The digitalisation of Luxembourg requires efficient and scaleable connectivity. To respond to this increase in data and ever more digital uses, POST will continue to invest in the “Network of the future” by increasing the capacities of the 4G network, preparing for 5G and continuing the deployment of optical fibre. Since 2010, POST Luxembourg has laid more than 19,500 km of optical fibre cables with more than 1,285,000 km of optical fibres.

CEO Claude Strasser confirmed this commitment: “In order to accelerate the deployment of ultra-broadband in general, and in rural regions in particular, POST Luxembourg has decided to increase by €50 million the multi-year budget planned for investments in the telecommunications network. Today, POST allows nearly 70% of the population to connect to Internet access with speeds of up to 1 Gbit / s. By 2023, we are aiming for a rate of 75%".

Economy Minister Franz Fayot welcomed the decision of POST to increase its investments: "I am delighted with the increase in the budget allocated to the development of the telecommunications network. The continuous deployment of infrastructure and the improvement of connectivity contribute to the development of the Luxembourg economy by promoting the acceleration of the digitalisation of the country and its international positioning as a centre of excellence in ICT".
