In a recent study published by Lensa, Luxembourg ranked seventh best in the world for paid parental leave, with up to 60 weeks paid.

The study compiled the total number of paid leave weeks for both parents and the average payment rate for paid leave, to find where in the world parents are offered the most parental leave.

According to Lensa, Romania offered the most full-rate equivalent paid leave, with a total of 97.1 weeks of parental leave offered to Romanian parents: Mothers are offered just over two years of leave at 85% of their pay, while fathers are offered 5.3 weeks of leave at a slightly higher 87.8% of pay.

Estonia came in second with 84 weeks of parental leave and the only country in top five that offers 100% pay for paid leave for both mothers and fathers. In third place was Bulgaria, offering a total of 69.4 full-rate equivalent weeks of paid leave.

The worst countries for parental leave on the list are Ireland, Switzerland and Australia - offering a total of slightly over eight full-rate equivalent weeks of paid leave and being the only three countries to offer under ten weeks.
