SOS Détresse, a helpline in Luxembourg offering support via telephone and online, has announced that it its English-language helpline service is now also available on Sundays.

SOS Détresse noted that speaking about emotional or personal subjects - in a multilingual country such as Luxembourg - can be especially challenging in a language in which one does not feel comfortable. The helpline service added that it wants to offer helpful conversations to as many people as possible. As such, it opened its helpline in English in 2022; this is available in addition to telephone support in Luxembourgish, German and French.

Since the introduction of the English-language helpline, SOS Détresse has observed an increased number of calls on Wednesdays and Saturdays during its English shifts, which indicates demand for the service. SOS Détresse acknowledged that more people would be able to make use of the offer if it were available more often.

Therefore, starting in May 2025, the helpline in English will also be available on Sundays from 11:00 to 23:00. As such, the service will be reachable in the middle of the week and on both days of the weekend, assuming that most people who use English as their main language have come to Luxembourg for working reasons and thus have more time to talk on the weekend.

SOS Détresse is available in Luxembourgish, German and French every day from 11:00 to 23:00 (until 03:00 on weekends). The English line is available every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 23:00.
