On Tuesday 18 August 2026, Luxembourg faced Portugal in the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket 2026 Division B at the Salle des Sports in Bertrange, in front of 400 spectators, with Portugal winning 101-40.
Portugal led 31-12 after the first quarter and went into half-time with a 51-21 advantage. The gap widened further in the second half, with Portugal scoring 22 points to Luxembourg's eight in the third quarter and 28 to Luxembourg's eleven in the fourth, bringing the final score to 101-40.
The final quarter scores were 12-31, 9-20, 8-22 and 11-28, respectively.
According to FIBA's game statistics, Portugal led for 39 minutes and 46 seconds of the game and recorded a largest lead of 61 points. Luxembourg recorded a field-goal percentage of 26%, compared with Portugal's 46%.
Speaking with Chronicle.lu after the game, Luxembourg U16 women's national team head coach Rumen Galabov discussed preparations for the team's next match, which is expected to be against Austria.
He explained that the coaching staff would analyse Austria's games, focusing on the team's strengths and weaknesses as well as individual players. "We're going to watch both of Austria games," he said, adding that Luxembourg would then adapt its approach based on its analysis of Austria's offensive and defensive play.
The tournament began on Monday 17 August 2026 and will continue until Saturday 22 August 2026. The classification games will take place on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 August, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semi-finals and the third-placed teams competing for fifth place. The tournament winner will earn promotion to Division A.
