On Sunday 7 June 2026, the Luxembourg Hockey Club (LHC) hosted a Family Day at Boy Konen Stadium in Luxembourg-Cessange to celebrate its members, the past season and the club's 50th anniversary.

Around 250 participants registered for the event, which also welcomed teams from across the Greater Region, including clubs from Strasbourg, Arlon, Trier and Nancy, highlighting the cross-border connections developed by the club over its fifty-year history.

“We're surrounded by great hockey nations. Germany are world champions, Belgium are Olympic champions and the Netherlands have won many titles over the years,” said Dirk Amourette, Secretary of the Luxembourg Hockey Federation. “That's why we believe hockey has a good future in Luxembourg. “We have received great support from the City of Luxembourg through the provision of the pitch and from the government through subsidies, which has helped the sport develop.”

The Family Day began with introductory training sessions and workshops for children, giving younger participants an opportunity to discover hockey. The morning programme also included trophy presentations for youth teams in recognition of their results during the season.

Celebrations continued with a reception marking the club's 50th anniversary, bringing together current and former members. Throughout the afternoon, participants took part in friendly matches featuring mixed teams of different age groups and genders, with the emphasis placed on participation and enjoyment rather than competition.

The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, while the overall focus remained on bringing together players, families and supporters to celebrate both the club's anniversary and the wider hockey community in Luxembourg.

“Our target with the club is to grow to 800 members because then you would be able to cover the full pyramid of age groups for both men and women,” said Dirk Amourette. The club currently has around 400 members and hopes to double that number in the coming years as part of its long-term development plans and efforts to strengthen the national player pathway.

He also confirmed that renovation works at the Boy Konen Stadium pitch have affected upcoming fixtures. As a result, Luxembourg's men's and women's national teams will play their official friendly matches against Morocco in Maastricht (Netherlands) on Sunday 21 June 2026. The fixture will mark the first official international match in the history of the Moroccan men's national team.

Attention will then turn to the EuroHockey Championship Qualifier II tournaments in Helsinki, Finland, from 9 to 12 July 2026. Luxembourg's women's team will face Finland, Gibraltar and Hungary, while the men's side will take on Finland, Lithuania, Malta, Gibraltar, Greece and Hungary as they seek promotion within the European hockey structure.
