The Greek Cinema Club (Ciné-club hellénique de Luxembourg) has announced two screenings of the documentary Super Paradise (2025), which will take place on Tuesday 30 June at 19:00 and Wednesday 1 July at 21:00 at Cinéma Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.
Directed by Steve Krikris, the 88-minute documentary will be screened in its original Greek and English versions with English subtitles. The film is suitable for audiences aged sixteen and over.
Synopsis: Over the past seventy years, the Greek island of Mykonos has undergone dramatic transformations, evolving from a poor and remote destination into one of the world's most exclusive tourist hotspots. Through archival footage, Super 8 re-enactments, drone and mobile phone recordings, animation and interviews with residents, artists, entrepreneurs and visitors, the documentary explores how the island changed and examines whether the paradise it once represented still exists today.
Director Steve Krikris holds a degree in Film Studies from the San Francisco Art Institute and has more than 35 years of experience as a filmmaker. His feature film The Waiter (2018) won eight awards at international film festivals, including the Beijing International Film Festival, Raindance Film Festival and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. It also became the first Greek film acquired by Netflix Europe. His short film The Last Journey (2022) premiered at the Drama International Short Film Festival and was later screened at Raindance.
Tickets cost €6 for club members and €12 for non-members and can be purchased at the cinema before the screening (cash only) or online via Luxembourg Ticket.
