The Greek Cinema Club (Ciné-club hellénique de Luxembourg) has announced two screenings featuring the film Giannis In The Cities (2024), which will take place on Tuesday 17 March at 19:00 and Wednesday 18 March at 21.00 at Cinéma Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.

Directed by Eleni Alexandraki, the film will be showcased in the original Greek version with English subtitles. Shot in black and white, the film runs for 90 minutes. Suitable for children aged twelve and over.

Synopsis: The film centres on Giannis, the son of a partisan, who is sent to state-run children’s camps in 1949. As an adult, he searches for the father who has haunted him. The narrative is based on the true story of writer Yannis Atzakas.

The Director Eleni Alexandraki was born in 1957 in Athens. She studied film at Sorbonne University in Paris, France and at the National Film and Television School in the United Kingdom (UK).

She has written, directed and produced several fiction films and documentaries, and received numerous awards in Greece and abroad, including her film A Drop in the Ocean that received the Mionneto Film Award at the Forum of the Berlin International Film Festival in 1996.

In 2005, The Woman Who Missed Home received a Special Mention at the Rhodes Eco Film Festival and in 2009, Angel and the Weightlifter won a Gold Remi Award at WorldFest Houston.
