Following on from the documentary "Wariazone", the "Queer Loox" film series in Luxembourg will be screening two more projects on Tuesday 7 June 2016 exploring LGBTQ activism and personal feelings.
The first film, entitled "My Child", was created by Turkish director Can Candan in 2013 and follows the narrations of seven parents of LGBT children on their paths towards becoming activists. In this way, the documentary explores the journey that begins with a child coming out to their parent(s) and the death and rebirth of identity that can ensue for child and adult alike. This may involve fears about what "others", particularly in a conservative society, might say, as well as role reversals as several parents found their children became their teachers in the process.
The film will be in Turkish with English subtitles. The screening will be followed by a discussion of the situation in Luxembourg.
The supporting film will be "The Alphabet of Feeling Bad" by Berlin-based artist, film and video curator and lecturer, Karin Michalski. The film explores everyday negative feelings as "public feelings" politicised in the context of neoliberal working conditions and of homophobia, sexism and racism.
The event will take place at 19:00 at the Plateforme of Rotonde. Entry is free. For more information, click here.
