Luxembourg's winter sales started on Tuesday 2 January and will run until Saturday 27 January 2024 inclusive this year.
In Luxembourg, the winter sales period began one day ahead of that of neighbouring Belgium, where the sales started on Wednesday 3 January and will last until Wednesday 31 January 2023. Marques Avenue, including McArthurGlen, in Messancy, for example, is a 20-minute drive away from Luxembourg and launched its sales period today.
In France, in nearby Lorraine, the winter sales also kicked off on Tuesday 2 January 2024, while the sales period will begin a week later in most of the rest of the country. Cities such as Metz and Thionville offer various shopping opportunities not far from Luxembourg. This period is meant to allow the stock to be sold and make room for the new collection. Although there are no set sales periods in Germany, several shops and shopping centres are holding winter sales at the moment, for example in neighbouring Trier (and Saarbrücken).
On Monday 1 January 2024, the pre-2023 VAT rates of 17%, 14% and 8% were reinstated, increasing again by 1%. The super-reduced rate of 3% remained unchanged.
The sales season occurs biannually in Luxembourg, during both summer and winter. This period enables merchants to deplete their stock and offer products at discounted prices. The Grand Duchy’s summer sales will run from Monday 24 June to Saturday 20 July 2024 inclusive.
