Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg has announced the arrival on the market of a new Fairtrade certified football in Luxembourg's colours.

With Luxembourg still in with a chance of qualifying for the next UEFA European Football Championship, which will take place from 14 June to 14 July 2024, Luximpex, a local company based in Munsbach and a partner of the NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg, has created a Fairtrade certified football in the Luxembourg colours, in line with the  "Let's make it happen" national branding campaign.

According to Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg, this football meets "strict sustainability criteria respecting human rights and the environment in the supply chain". The NGO recalled that, on the eve of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, several investigations denounced the indecent salary conditions of people working in the ball industry, in particular those of women working in Sialkot in Pakistan. Currently, about 60,000 people work in the football manufacturing industry in this region, across 1,000 factories.

Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg explained that this new football in Luxembourg's colours is manufactured in a factory in Pakistan which "respects Fairtrade economic, social and environmental standards". It is available in two sizes (small and size 5).
