Luxembourg's Government Commissioner for Quality, Fraud and Food Safety has issued a warning concerning sesame seeds contaminated with plant protection product residues (ethylene oxide).

Following numerous recalls of sesame seeds as well as of products containing sesame seeds (cereals and bakery products, e.g. flour, bagels, baguettes, bread, etc.) contaminated with ethylene oxide, the food safety authorities of Luxembourg have again urged consumers to regularly consult the list of products concerned. This list currently contains almost 100 products and is updated regularly on the food safety website.

Consumers who have purchased a product containing sesame seeds can consult this list to see if they have a product affected by the recall.

Ethylene oxide is a genotoxic carcinogen (IARC I) and could result in problems associated with regular consumption. Therefore, the Luxembourg food safety authorities recommend no longer consuming such contaminated products.
