After 18 months of work, Lidl Luxembourg has announced the reopening of its store located on Rue de Soleuvre in Differdange, as well as the recruitment of 27 new employees.

The new store will officially open its doors to customers on Wednesday 14 October 2020 at 08:00. The supermarket's sales area has been enlarged from 650 m² to 1,428 m². The store layout has been completely redesigned to provide an improved shopping experience and easier circulation for customers. The brand is also strengthening its positioning as a discount store for families by offering a more diverse range of fresh products at low prices.

"The retail space of 1,428 m² fits perfectly with the criteria for the extended surface area of the new Lidl stores", explained Julien Wathieu, spokesperson for Lidl Belgium and Luxembourg. “The sales area of the new stores is in fact enlarged to better showcase the bakery, fresh fish and fruit and vegetable departments. The layout of the completely renewed store in Differdange offers a clearer commercial presentation, easy product identification, and optimized circulation up to the checkout. In addition, a car park with 141 spaces - compared to 75 spaces initially - is also available for our customers ”.

The reconstruction of this new store was seen as an opportunity to rethink the facilities in order to be as energy efficient as possible while offering maximum comfort to customers and staff. The new store in Differdange has thus been designed with the goal of reducing Lidl's environmental footprint in mind. New innovative installations include LED bulbs in all store lighting, permanent monitoring of the store's energy consumption, significant glass window insulation and the installation of free charging stations that can accommodate two electric vehicles and six electric bikes.

Lidl offers a fixed assortment of 1,800 references daily. Julien Wathieu explained: “At Lidl, 90% of our assortment is made up of products from our own brands. This strategy allows us to offer Luxembourg consumers high quality products at low prices. We achieve this by offering a limited choice of products in a complete assortment”. He added: “We pay particular attention to local products, appreciated by consumers. We have around 50 purely Luxembourgish products in store and our ambition is to increase the sale of local products by 10% each year".

Last June, the brand applied for a building permit for the construction of a new store in Dudelange, its 12th in Luxembourg. Road works and networks were completed this summer. Located on Route du Luxembourg, this major project will include a Lidl store with a sales area of 1,249 m² on the ground floor and a car park with 80 outdoor spaces and 57 covered spaces in the basement. On an area of 2,110 m², professional spaces will be available upstairs: part for internal use and another part for rental. The building will also focus on sustainability with a view to minimising energy consumption. This new project is expected to generate 35 new jobs.
