The City of Luxembourg has announced that it is offering financial support to businesses during the post-confinement recovery period.
In the context of the coronavirus pandemic and following measures taken by the government, the majority of businesses have been deeply affected and retail businesses, in the Horeca sector and other sectors have experienced a sharp decline. Aware that these sectors are vital for residents and visitors to the capital, the College of Aldermen of the City of Luxembourg has decided to support businesses during the recovery phase.
The City will contact around 1,500 businesses via personalised letter in the coming days. These businesses then have the possibility of receiving rapid financial support, thanks to the direct purchase of vouchers by the City for a value of €1,000 including tax. These vouchers will then be distributed to the public via a competition and other promotional and distribution actions.
In order to make this measure a success, all merchants who have received a letter are requested to go to Hall Victor Hugo from Monday 15 to Friday 26 June 2020 with the documents mentioned in the letter. Businesses who have not received the letter can download the necessary documents from commerce.vdl.lu, after which they are also asked to go to Hall Victor Hugo in order to obtain the same financial support and to register with the commercial cadastre of the City of Luxembourg to stay informed of future city initiatives in the field of commerce.
A second trade promotion project that the City of Luxembourg is in the process of implementing consists of updating the cityshopping.lu website. Thanks to this platform, any business that wishes to may have a layout on a dedicated page, from the end of 2020, which allows it to obtain more visibility for its brand. For the implementation of this digital platform, the Communication and Public Relations Service and the City's Economic and Commercial Development Unit works in close collaboration with the UCVL and Letzshop.
