On Wednesday early evening, the Opkorn shopping centre was inaugurated in Differdange, Luxembourg's third largest city with 24,500 inhabitants.

Eric Lux, of the property developer Ikogest, and Roberto Traversini, Mayor of Differdange, were joined by Luxembourg's Minister for Labour, for the opening in which 600 guests had been invited. A brass band performed, crémant and finger-food was available and a stage was erected for the speeches and ribbon-cutting.

The Opkorn shopping centre will provide employment for 270 people, of which around 150 will work for Auchan, in their 2nd hypermarket to open Luxembourg, the first being in Kirchberg and the third planned for the Ban de Gasperich / Cloche d'Or.

The shopping centre has a floor area of 14,800 m2, of which Auchan has 4,200 m2, with 21 other shops and 5 restaurants opening on both sides of the wide aisle (with high ceilings) of the 2-storey shopping centre, including Orange Luxembourg and We Love to Travel travel agency, as well as clothes stores, hairdressers, etc. The underground on-site car-park has space for 512 vehicles on two levels. The train station is very close by, with bus stops right outside the shopping centre too.

The shopping centre is located in the Arboria neighbourhood which will have a total of 600 homes when all are completed. The international school is located nearby too.

Opkorn will be open for business tomorrow, Friday morning, from 08:00.
