On Thursday 7 January 2016 Cactus announced cattle breeder Yves Sand as the supermarket's Food Hero 2015 at La Belle Étoile shopping centre in Bertrange.
Mr. Sand, who works in Bettange-sur-Mess, earned the accolade after collecting the most votes for the label 'Cactus Rëndfleesch vum Lëtzebuerger Bauer'.
Competition sponsors Domains Vinsmoselle provided the awards handed out to Cactus customers who participated in the vote, including 45 sampling menus in restaurants across Luxembourg and 200 cases of Cult Magnum.
The Food Hero idea was developed to reward personalities in the Grnad Duchy who defend on a daily basis the concept of 'real', healthy, and responsibly-sourced food that defies the 'junk food' norm. Mr. Sand was joined for the occasion by nearly twenty Food Hero peers, producers and artisans, who were all highlighted in Cactus News over the course of the last year for their engagement in their work, quality of their production and investment in their region.
Cactus stated that the idea will continue into 2016, when it will be providing more information on Food Heroes of the region and the world for readers to discover.
