Although already open to the public and trade for a few weeks now, the Grand Opening of the specialist Irish cash and carry, Eirelux, took place in Howald at Saturday afternoon.
Luxembourg now has a specialised shop selling ranges of typical delicacies and home produce from Ireland, including biscuits, crisps, chocolates, sauces, meat, fish and alcohol, including a significant range of beer, including artisan labels and craft ciders. Eirelux is currently supplying their Irish products into Germany, Belgium, and Holland, and are continuing to expand, with store owner revealing plans for China too.
At the opening, customers were offered an inviting welcome with balloons and Irish flags, including live Irish music and Irish dancing, along with a refreshment stand with the possibility to enjoy typical Irish coffees with West Cork whiskey.
Vincent Clarke, the man behind Eirelux, talked with The Luxembourg Chronicle and stated:
“This week the Irish chain is into negotiations to open up a restaurant, and also a butcher shop to expand the meat selection”.
Customers also have the opportunity to expand the wish list so that Eirelux can add new products to the future stock.
Ireland’s Ambassador to Luxembourg, Peadar Carpenter, officiated at the opening and stated his delight at Eirelux opening its doors to serve the local trade and public, as well as internationally to neighbouring countries. He stated that Ireland has a strong agriculture industry and a lot of quality produce.
