The newly founded RCL Girlz rugby team hosted its first 7s rugby tournament in Luxembourg this past weekend, bringing together U16 and U18 girls from Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL), St George's International School and a team from Germany.

The RCL noted that, despite the freezing weather, the young athletes displayed an impressive level of grit and passion for the game, with every player giving their all on the field. Players from the different teams came together to compete but also to forge new friendships and enjoy the true spirit of rugby.

The tournament has been described as a "resounding success". Coaches, parents and supporters alike were full of praise for the dedication and effort the players exhibited throughout the day.

RCL Girlz, who are in their debut season, were particularly proud of how far the team has come in such a short time.

"It was an unforgettable day of rugby," said Giulia Iannucci, Head of RCL Girlz.

Similarly, James Kent, RCL director of ladies rugby, told the team: "Huge congratulations on today! You were outstanding in your first 7s tournament on home soil in an international stadium! Your efforts to keep going after so many games (and in the freezing cold) was admirable!"

As much as the tournament was about competition, it was also a celebration of teamwork, fun and sportsmanship. The atmosphere throughout the day was described as both competitive and inclusive, with the event highlighting the growing presence of girls' rugby in Luxembourg and across the region.

"We are thrilled with how the event turned out and are excited to see the future of girls' rugby in Luxembourg," said Scott Brown, the St Georges coach. "It's not just about the wins or losses, it's about the connections made, the teamwork and the passion for the game. The tournament was a perfect example of what rugby is all about."

With the tournament now behind them, RCL Girlz said they are looking forward to future events and continuing to grow the sport among young women in Luxembourg.
