On Saturday 4 May 2019, in their last game of the 2018-19 season, Luxembourg gained an important away victory in Hungary to preserve their status in the North division of the Rugby Europe International Championships (REIC).

Coming into the Conference 1 match, played in Szombat (Hungary), Luxembourg had recorded a home win against Moldova and Hungary most recently lost at home to Ukraine and beat Moldova away.

Luxembourg got off to a positive start, with out-half Maxime Dozin slotting over a penalty in the 8th minutes to take a 0-3 lead. The home side, however, managed to touch down for the game's opening trip exactly half way through the first half, with winger Mishka Huczmann's try being converted by out-half Matthew Bradley.

Almost immediately from the re-start, Hungary regained possession and Huczmann scored his second try in three minutes (unconverted) to see the home side race into a 12-3 lead which they held until the half-time whistle sounded.

Seven minutes after the start of the second-half started, a key incident happened with the home side's #7 Ákos Ágotai being yellow-carded which saw Hungary down to 14 men for 10 minutes.

Luxembourg took immediate advantage, with prop Quentin Dee touching down to narrow the scoreline to 12-8. However, the home side extended their lead with a penalty just before Ágotai was allowed back on. 15-8 to Hungary with just 24 minutes left to play.

With just a quarter of an hour to go, Luxembourg's inside centre, Joshua van Zeeland, gave the visitors some hope with their second try of the game; with Dozin converting, the scores were level at 15-15.

By this time, both sides were calling on their replacements. The final score came just 4 minutes from time, with Dozin slotting over a penalty to leave the final score at 15-18 and a win on the road for Luxembourg.
